NASHUA, NH —The Nashua Police Department is looking to expand its community services with a newly-announced program called "Just in Case."

"As many residents are aware the Nashua Police Department currently uses two programs to serve the community: Autism Awareness and Operation Safe Return," the department wrote Thursday. "While these programs are successful, the police department strives to service a larger segment of the city’s population, as many residents are affected by much more than autism or dementia."

That sparked the idea for "Just in Case," which the department says will be "used to identify people in our community living with cognitive limitations" and help officers "provide the right servives for the right situation."

It "works intimately with the Co-Responder Program, meaning a trained behavioral health worker will assist in managing 'Just In Case,'" police added. "This way police officers can better respond to the individualized needs of the person."
