Nashua Police Involved In Extended Standoff On Chestnut Street

Standoff ended shortly before midnight after portions of Chestnut Street were evacuated and closed for nearly 10 hours.

NASHUA, NH — A Nashua Police standoff on Chestnut Street stretched for more than 10 hours into Friday evening before ending shortly before midnight. Roads leading to Chestnut Street were closed, and some residents evacuated, Friday afternoon as Nashua Police steered traffic and children from the nearby Elm Street Middle School clear of the area.

The standoff ended around shortly before midnight with a man being taken from a Chestnut Street residence in handcuffs, according to WMUR-TV.

Nashua Police sent an alert to parents picking up students at Elm Street Middle School to avoid Chestnut Street due to a "police situation" Friday afternoon. Police asked parents picking up children at the school to go directly to the Elm Street entrance.

Students who normally walk home from school were being held at the school during the afternoon. Parents of students who normally walk home were advised to pick them up at the Elm Street entrance.

WMUR-TV’s Tim Callery reported that SWAT units were on scene on Chestnut Street for a potential standoff situation early Friday afternoon.

WMUR-TV's Siobhan Lopez reported that some neighbors on Chestnut Street have been evacuated, and utilities crews had cut power to the site of the standoff, with SWAT units on scene through the early evening hours.
