Nashua Police Seek Witnesses to Accident

Truck driver struck pedestrian at Cotton Road, Amherst Street on Oct. 29; man is in critical condition.

A 53-year-old Nashua man is in critical condition at Mass. General Hospital after an accident last night and police are wondering if anyone from the public was in the area at the time and saw the collision.

According to police, officers were sent to the accident involving a truck diver and a pedestrian at the intersection of Amherst Street and Cotton Road at around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29.

When they got there, officers found that the man was unconscious with a head injury. AMR rescue teams transported him to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for treatment and he was later transported to Mass. General Hospital.

The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old Nashua man, reportedly stated that he made a left hand turn from Amherst onto Cotton and saw a man walking in the middle of the street.

“According to (the driver), he applied his brakes but was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian,” according to Lt. E.Z. Paulson of the Nashua Police Department. “At the time of the collision it was dark out and raining heavily.”

Police reconstructed the accident and gathered evidence from the scene. The truck, owned by Hudson-RPM Distributors, was towed from the scene for a vehicle safety inspection.

The crash is still under investigation and police would like anyone who may have seen the collision to call the Nashua Police Department at 603-2594-3500.
