This summer, your reading makes a difference. The Nashua Public Library is launching its annual all-ages Summer Reading Challenge on June 22 with a unique twist on its community reading goal inspired by this year’s theme, “All Together Now.”

If the community reads 800,000 minutes before August 10, the Friends of the Nashua Public Library will generously donate $500 to three Nashua-area nonprofits: Regenerative Roots Association, NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire, and Operation Delta Dog. Readers in the challenge will earn virtual tickets they can use to vote for the nonprofit that they’d like to see take home a larger portion of the donation.

“NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire is excited to be ‘all together’ with the Nashua community, creating affordable housing in the City and collaborating with residents and other partners to build strong neighborhoods,” said Robert Tourigny, Executive Director. “We are honored that our organization has been selected in such a special and generous way as Nashua residents embrace the importance and joy associated with reading during the summer months.”

Andrew Morin, Executive Director of Regenerative Roots, echoed that excitement about community partnerships, saying that in addition to helping work together toward the reading goal, “they look forward to helping teach more people how to grow healthy food together!”

The Summer Reading Challenge is NPL’s signature program to keep young readers from losing critical literacy skills during the summer months. Over the years, the program has evolved to include adults and features the opportunity to post public book reviews and add friends.

Starting Thursday, June 22, customers of all ages can sign up for the challenge in one of three ways:

  • Online at nashualibrary.beanstack.org.
  • By downloading the free Beanstack app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Stopping by the Information Services desk in the library.

Summer Reading Challenge 2023: All Together Now is sponsored by the Friends of the Nashua Public Library. In addition to the nonprofit donation, each age group in the challenge will earn prizes like early literacy kits for babies, bead necklaces for kids, backpacks or lanyards for teens, and Booktique vouchers for adults. The challenge culminates in a free party on the plaza on August 10 at 7 pm featuring a Beatles music concert performed by the Loce Jazz Trio, ice cream, an announcement of the raffle winners, and a check presentation for the nonprofits.
