Nashua Residents Asked to Conserve Water

Nashua is in a severe drought and Pennichuck Water asked residents to conserve water — especially outdoor usage. Please share!

NASHUA, NH — Pennichuck Water, which serves Nashua, on Monday requested residents restrict water use amid a severe drought. The company specifically asked residents to limit outdoor watering except for gardening.

Here's a notice Pennichuck Water released Monday:

The State of New Hampshire is currently experiencing severe drought conditions. These low flow conditions
are not expected to change in the coming months. To help preserve local ground and surface water flows
Pennichuck is requesting that our customers voluntarily and totally eliminate the use of any water outdoors, with the exception of watering vegetable gardens and newly planted vegetation with a hand-held watering can.
Outdoor water use accounts for a sizeable portion of your water systems daily water usage. Lawn irrigation is a large part of this outside water usage. However, indoor usage can also be reduced by as much as 20% by turning off faucets while washing dishes and hands, only washing full loads of laundry and taking shorter showers. Additional water can be conserved by replacing old showerheads, faucets, toilets and washing machines with EPA WaterSense and Energy Star ® certified products.
