Nashua Schools to Carry Narcan
The Nashua Board of Education Monday night approved a proposal to stock schools with Narcan, a heroin overdose antidote.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua schools will soon carry Narcan after the city’s Board of Education approved the measure Monday night.

Narcan is an antidote that can rescue someone suffering an opioid overdose.
The drug will be supplied by the state at no cost to the Nashua school district, according to Superintendent Mark Conrad.

School nurses will soon undergo training. Narcan will be stocked in the city’s middle and high schools.
Gov. Maggie Hassan last year declared heroin abuse a public health crisis. Last year, Nashua police said they have recorded 142 overdoses—including 16 deaths.

“I don’t think we can deny that this problem exists in our community,” board member George Farrington said Monday night. “This is important and responsible.”
Narcan is available as an injection or nasal spray. It has no side effects if used incorrectly, Conrad said.
