Nashua Student Made Gun Threats To Classmates: Police

A Nashua high school student threatened classmates on Instagram with images of a gun on April 11, 2017, police said.

NASHUA, NH — A Nashua high school student was arrested Tuesday night on charges he made gun threats to several classmates on Instagram, police said. The 15-year-old student was identified as a boy but his name was not released because he is a minor, police said. Additional officers were placed in Nashua's two high schools Wednesday as a precaution.

Nashua police Lt. Kerry Baxter said the threats "were of a violent nature and included photos of firearms in ... social media posts." Baxter added, "Some of the individuals reporting to police perceived the threats as being directed towards Nashua High School South as well as individual students. The Nashua Police Department’s Special Investigations Division investigated and determined that none of the threats were specifically directed towards the school."

The student reportedly posted video of a rifle with the caption, "Y'all thought I was joking."

The students targeted by the threats quickly contacted police around 6:30 p.m., Baxter said. The student suspect was arrested around 11 p.m.

"Thank you to all the concerned citizens, including Nashua students, who came forward with information so we could promptly investigate this," police said. "This is a perfect example of see something(,) say something."

Baxter added, "The investigation is continuing; however there are no known threats to any students at this time ... The Nashua Police Department, in conjunction with the Nashua School District, arranged to have an additional officer presence at both (high schools)."
