Nashua Woman Accused Of Poaching Pooch From Pet Store
Makayla Cherichel was arrested on a felony theft charge accused of stealing a $3,000 Pomeranian from a local pet store.

NASHUA, NH — A Gate City woman faces 15 years in prison after being arrested Friday on a felony theft charge accused of stealing a dog from a pet store.
Officers were sent to a store in the city at just after 4:15 p.m. for a report of the theft of a Pomeranian valued at nearly $3,000. The suspect was identified as Makayla A. Cherichel, 22, of Amherst Street in Nashua. A short time later, she was located by officers.
"Cherichel was still in possession of the Pomeranian and officers were able to return the dog to the pet store," according to Lt. Patrick Hannon of the criminal investigation division of the Nashua Police Department. "The Pomeranian was not harmed during this incident. The Pomeranian was valued at $2,999.99, therefore detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were assigned to further the investigation."

Due to the value of the dog, the theft by unauthorized taking charge was elevated to a felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and fines. Cherichel was arrested and released on personal recognizance bail. She is due in Hillsborough County Superior Court at a later date.
