Nashua's Stacie Laughton Blames Mental Illness for Bomb Threat
Laughton, the state's first transgender lawmaker, was arrested for phoning in a bomb threat to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

Nashua’s Stacie Laughton, the first transgender lawmaker in New Hampshire history, said her recent arrest for calling in a bomb threat to a local hospital was the result of mental illness.
Laughton this week was charged with phoning in a bomb threat to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center Feb. 27 around 8:30 a.m. Police evacuated the building and searched but found nothing. They did not release further details.
In an interview with the New Hampshire Union Leader, Laughton blamed her mental illness.

“I guess this was my worst break with it,” she told the Union Leader. “I was untreated for a long time, and I didn’t have medication ... I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, and it was totally out of character for me.”
Laughton, 31, of 243 Main St., Apt. 21, was charged with making a false explosives report—a felony.

The arrest was another in a series of legal troubles for Laughton.
Shortly after she was elected as a state representative in 2012, she was forced to step down after revelations she served jail time for credit card fraud.
Police said Laughton turned herself in on a warrant Thursday and was released on $50,000 bail. She’s due in court April 16.
Laughton was born a man and now identifies as a woman.
