VIDEO: PSA Preps Holiday Stroll Exhibition

On Wednesday night a group of budding artists from the Boys & Girls Club got together with members of Positive Street Art to create a flash mural, which will be showcased during Saturday's Holiday Stroll.

Using small square canvases, tape and paint, they produced a geometric masterpiece in shades of blue and gray.

The kids were guided through the project by Cecelia Ulibarri and Manny Ramirez, PSA founders, along with community artists Tom Lopez and Maggie Williams. The finished product will be on display Saturday at the old Coronis Cleaners, which will be transformed during the stroll into PSA HQ.

Since January, Ulibarri and Ramirez have been working hard to establish their art-centered organization as an integral part of the community – their first official commission was a splashy public mural on the exterior of the Canal Street Dunkin' Donuts, but they also created a streetscape that set the mood for a recent Chamber of Commerce gala, and most recently contributed to the fanciful Christmas gift boxes on Main Street, doubling as cover-ups for the city's construction in progress.

Ulibarri said the group's focus at the moment is to establish a permanent home base, so they can offer the kinds of nomad workshops they've been holding regularly at the Boys & Girls Club in their own space.

"We have a lot of offers of donations for supplies but we have no place to store them," Ulbarri said. "So establishing a space of our own is something we're currently in the process of doing."
