Roemer Has Confidence in Campaign

Buddy Roemer explained the changes in campaigning and government he would implement if elected president.

Republican candidate Buddy Roemer is confident in a “come from behind” victory in the race for the presidential nomination.

“I'm not a kid, and maybe a president ought to be seasoned in tough times,” said Roemer at a town hall meeting at the Nashua Public Library this evening. “I'm old enough to know what to do and young enough to do it. Let's go.”

Roemer spoke and took questions from a small crowd of about 15 people tonight, but he is confident that he can become a better known candidate in New Hampshire.

If elected, he said his first priority would be reasonable solutions to getting American jobs back and improving the economy

To do this, Roemer said that he would work on creating affordable energy within our country's borders and form new jobs within our own country. For example, he believes that we can drilling our own resources is the best course of action going forward.

A major issue for Roemer is fair trade with China and making sure that American businesses are encouraging growth here and not outside of our borders.

Even if it means small increases in prices of goods, he believes that creating American jobs is the priority to improve the economy and establish American independence.

He doesn't play partisan politics, seeing a need for change in both parties, and lays blame on our current economic situation in both the federal government and Wall Street.

The Republican called for a restoration of the Glass–Steagall Act, eliminating the idea that a bank is “too big to fail” and implementing healthcare reform that actually works.

“We need healthcare reform, when people cant afford to be sick, we have a fundamental problem in this country,” he said. “Obamacare did not reduce the cost of healthcare.”

Roemer explained the advantages of his proposed flat tax and, but said he is not a fan of GOP candidate Herman Cain's “999 Plan” since it would increase taxes by layering them on top of each other.

“It is not a good plan,” said Roemer.

On education, the former governor and congressman would drastically reduce the role of the Department of Education and and make sure that teachers are qualified to teach their subjects.

“Demand excellence, mediocrity is not an option,” said Roemer

He said that the immigration system needs an overhaul and that we need to send back illegal immigrants. If they are willing to come back legally, he would allow them to use the system and return as functioning members of society.

Finally, Roemer said that America needs to stop policing the world and help other countries, but don't just give them money. He cited examples of corrupt leaders governments using American Aid for their own benefit and not for the people.

“We haven't bought many friends,” he said.

Through all of these issues, Roemer called for unity in both the political parties and the American people.

“You need to build America from the center, it is not just going to be Republicans that rebuild America,” he said. “I am a proud Republican, but I am a prouder American.”
