Why are you seeking elective office?
I’m running because from the federal level to the family level, I feel as though we are tearing ourselves apart. It breaks my heart and I feel like if I could do anything, it would be to make all the frustrated people out there feel heard, feel listened to, so that they and I and we together can better cooperate and work to make our small corner of the country a more harmonious place.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Our main problem is morale and morality. It’s not unique to Nashua, but it prevents us from crafting solutions that defuse and alleviate tension and, instead, exacerbates the division between us and leads to heightened feelings of alienation.
Some examples of this are the controversial mask mandates, including the mandatory masking of children, and the lavish spending projects while raising taxes amid times of financial strain and record inflation.
These were unwise and polarizing decisions and likely could’ve been handled more effectively had they been more accommodating to those with different points of view, rather than fully forcing it upon those who disagreed. People need to be heard, compromises need to be achieved, and I believe that the solution to our moral injury, as a city and as a people, is through public officials who are reasonable, receptive, and responsive.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The candidates I’m running against seem well-meaning but they are incumbents currently serving on the Board of Alderman. If you see, as I do, the cracks in the foundation of the city of Nashua, then they won’t be the ones to solve the problems that they have contributed to.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
In my view, the current Board of Aldermen has engaged in needless partisanship, harming the friendly relationships between the citizens of Nashua.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
An Alderman should be reasonable, receptive, and responsive. Reasonable in perspective, receptive to other viewpoints, and responsive to the needs of the people.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Working in the hospital as a doctor for more than 11 years has given me the skills to have difficult discussions, make difficult decisions, and solve difficult problems through camaraderie and teamwork.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
The best advice that I ever received was to learn to actively listen to people. Done well, it is twice blessed, blessing he who listens and he who speaks. It turns away wrath, and in its stead leaves mutual respect, kindliness, and sometimes love.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
To me, a moderate is not someone with lukewarm opinions, but rather someone who takes the time to earnestly listen to everyone’s point of view, and who tries to accommodate the happiness of as many people as they can in the final decision of their conscience. And so by that definition, I am, shall be, and shall remain a moderate.
