Southern New Hampshire Health Opens First Retail Pharmacy At Nashua Medical Center
The new Nashua pharmacy is open to the public and aims to offer faster fills and more personal counseling.
NASHUA, NH — Southern New Hampshire Health has opened its first retail pharmacy inside Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.
The full-service pharmacy is intended to serve people in the community, including patients being discharged from the hospital and people seeking medication ordering, pickup, and counseling.
The pharmacy is open to anyone, regardless of where they live or who prescribed the medication, according to the announcement. Southern New Hampshire Health said people receiving care at its facilities will have their electronic medical records and phone apps connected to the pharmacy. The health system also said hospital and surgical patients can get medications filled before they leave.

“Medication is a key part of care, but patients often feel like pharmacists don’t have time to counsel them or follow-up when they have questions or need support,” John Berard, Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy Services at Southern New Hampshire Health, said. “We are changing that, because we know people are frustrated with how impersonal big-name retail pharmacies have become.”
The health system said one feature of the new pharmacy is direct phone access to a team member or pharmacist. Callers only need to press one number on the first phone menu to reach a person in the pharmacy for a live discussion, according to the announcement. Southern New Hampshire Health also listed shorter prescription wait times and personalized medication counseling as key services of the pharmacy.

“The goal of our pharmacy is to serve patients with the highest quality care and expertise,” Michael Kleinshmidt, Chief Operating Officer of Southern NH Health, said. “We know that some patients on new or multiple prescriptions can feel overwhelmed and even stop taking their medication. By providing a more personalized experience, we will make it easier for everyone who walks through the door.”
Southern New Hampshire Health said the pharmacy accepts most major insurance plans. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. Patients can also call 603-598-MEDS to discuss transferring prescriptions, according to the announcement.
