At 6,288 feet, Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeast United States. It’s the site of some of the most extreme weather on Earth. There are hurricane-force winds about 100 days a year; the highest recorded wind speed is 231 mph.

The Mount Washington Auto Road is usually closed this time of year, but officials have considered reopening it this week due to abnormally warm weather.
