Three from Mass. Arrested After Crack Cocaine Dealing Investigation

Nashua Police arrested Catherine Steele and Lawrence Calafell on various charges; Kevon Simpson was also wanted for kidnapping and robbery.

NASHUA, NH — Three people from the Bay State were arrested yesterday after an “extensive investigation” into crack cocaine dealing in the Gate City, according to a press statement from Nashua Police. Arrested on Sept. 14, 2016, were Lawrence Calafell, 43, of Chestnut Street in Winchendon, MA, for criminal liability to sale of a controlled drug-crack cocaine and acts prohibited, possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute-crack cocaine, second offense, both felonies; Kevon Simpson, 19, of no fixed address in Webster, MA, for acts prohibited, sale of a controlled drug-crack cocaine, and acts prohibited, possession of a controlled- crack cocaine, both felonies; and Catherine Steele, 22, of Lake Street in Shrewsbury, MA, for driving after suspension or revocation and driver’s license prohibitions, both misdemeanors.

According to police, the Nashua Police Department Problem Oriented Policing Unit and Uniformed Field Operations Bureau Canine Unit were involved in the investigation of crack being transferred from Massachusetts and sold in Nashua. After a police action, Calafell was allegedly found to be in possession of more than 5 grams of crack.

“Simpson initially provided a false name and, after furthering their investigation, officers correctly identified Simpson and discovered that he had outstanding warrants out of Webster, MA, for larceny, armed robbery, and kidnapping,” according to Lt. Kevin Rourke of the Nashua Police Department.

Simpson was held on $250,000 cash bail, Calafell was held on $25,000 cash bail or surety, and Steele was held on $100 cash bail.
