Why are you seeking elective office?
It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve on the Board of Public Works for 14 years. I'm very knowledgeable I have a long history of making sound financial decisions for the city. I voted for our paving program which is a great investment in our infrastructure. I voted against the purchase of Burke St. a purchase the city lost a substantial amount of money on. I voted no on every AFSME contract that had the shotgun provision. The shotgun position essentially doubled the cost of plowing since there were two people in every truck that had a wing plow. In addition to the expense it made managing plowing a logistical nightmare for management. I'm happy to say hat tip to the AFSME union I was proud to support their contract this year that had no shotgun provision in it and had affordable raises. It was a good deal for the taxpayers and the union. I'm doing a good job and would like to continue to serve the people and not be a rubber stamp.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Keeping our high quality of serves while being fiscally responsible. It's extremely important for us to keep up with our paving program. We also need to be certain we abide by regulations set forth by DES for our landfill and our waste water treatment facility. The division needs to stay vigilant keeping up and maintaining our current infrastructure. We should continue our program lining sewer pipes. Some of of sewer pipes date back to the 1860's. Lining sewer pipes costs a small fraction of the cost of sewer replacement. Additionally there is no destruction of pavement. We need to stay focused on maintaining what we have.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I am the most qualified candidate. I have a long history of public service on this board. I have always been in this position to serve as a non partisan voice for the people. I know a great deal about our infrastructure and know how the division runs. I respect and work with the administration. I don't always agree and have never been and never will be a rubber stamp. I have served under a Republican Mayor and a Democratic Mayor. I had no problem standing up to both. Unlike one candidate I have no financial conflict which would prevent me from standing up to the Mayor. I will continue to serve to be a voice for the citizens and treat taxpayers money as if it's my own money.
