• Tackling a ‘puzzling' problem on Pleasant Lake (vnews.com) — Pleasant Lake in New London is experiencing recurring cyanobacteria blooms that are limiting summer recreation and worrying residents about long-term water quality. Local volunteers and the Pleasant Lake Protective Association are ramping up testing, deploying a solar-powered monitoring buoy, and pursuing a watershed management plan to pinpoint causes and protect the lake, wildlife, and nearby homes. 
• Linda Irene Nelson (vnews.com) — New London Hospital is noted as the place where longtime Newport resident Linda Irene Nelson passed away on July 14 at age 82, surrounded by family. Loved for her camping trips, crafts, and devotion to family, she will be honored at a Celebration of Life on August 1 at the First Congregational Church of Croydon, with a reception at Croydon Town Hall.
