The news today suggests that the Scott Brown senatorial campaign has formed something called “Women for Brown”. That, of course, led me to think for a bit about the four capable women who are “For New Hampshire”, to wit, our Federal delegation. All of them are impressive, and among them I have worked most closely with one exceptional person, Jeanne Shaheen.
Shaheen has served New Hampshire as a State Senator, a Governor and as United States Senator, and that’s just counting the official elected offices she has held over the last two decades. Her total contributions to the wellbeing of the Granite State have been much greater. For years Jeanne has been the kind of citizen the Founding Fathers must have dreamed of when they came up with our longest surviving democratic republic. Smart, capable, compassionate and unafraid of compromise, she has navigated her way through political shoals time and time again, always looking for the way to make things work better for her constituents.
We are lucky indeed to have had her service for these several decades. While I understand how important Scott Brown must feel it is to find some women who support him, I know for sure that Jeanne Shaheen will be the better Senator for New Hampshire during the next six years.
