2. Portsmouth named a top New England town for fall foliage. Here's why. (granitepostnews.com) β Portsmouth has just been singled out by Yankee Magazine as New Hampshire's top coastal town for fall foliage, with peak color on the Seacoast expected around October 20β31. Local favorites like Strawbery Banke, Prescott Park, Peirce Island, and Four Tree Island are praised for their walkable river views, historic charm, and brilliant leaves, giving residents plenty of nearby spots to enjoy the season without heading to the mountains.

3. Portsmouth rep. challenges House leader to fist fight, rejects calls to resign (nhpr.org) β Portsmouth state Rep. Ned Raynolds is under pressure from New Hampshire House Republicans to resign after he sent an angry Facebook message challenging House Majority Leader Jason Osborne to a fistfight in downtown Portsmouth. Raynolds admits sending the message but says he will not step down, even if asked by his own party's House leader.

4. 20th Annual Black New England Conference in Manchester Set For Oct. 23-24 (indepthnh.org) β Portsmouth history buffs may be especially interested in the Black Heritage Trail's 20th Annual Black New England Conference in Manchester on October 23-24, which includes a bus tour tracing Ona Judge's path to freedom in Portsmouth. The event features talks by Joy Reid and author George "Conscious" Lee, plus tours in Manchester, Milford, and Portsmouth that highlight Black history and resistance to erasure.
