Young Somersworth entrepreneurs

Emmett Soldati and Coty Donohue celebrate milestone

Somersworth, New Hampshire...An all day party will commemorate the first year anniversary of one of Somersworth’s newest establishments, Teatotaller Tea House. Entitled “Twelve Hours at Teatotaller” - for the 12 months in business - the event will take place on Sunday December 30, 2012 from 10am - 10pm at 109 Main Street in Somersworth. The day-long event will feature live music, specials every hour on the cafe’s menu of teas, coffees and European inspired pastries, and a festive sweater contest.

Emmett Soldati, founder and principal owner of Teatotaller, is gearing up for this first anniversary. “Last year, when I returned to my hometown, my hope was to create a special space for residents to mingle, to relax, and to be tantalized by our creative kitchen. It’s been an incredible journey opening and running the Tea House. We are so appreciative of the support of Somersworth and surrounding communities for making our first year such a success.”

During this last year, in an effort to increase operations, Soldati brought on Coty Donohue, a young Somersworth resident with a background in restaurant management. Donohue shares Soldati’s vision - that of working to transform the city of Somersworth. Beyond his new partnership in Teatotaller, Donohue ran successfully for Somersworth City Council and has recently been appointed to the board of directors of the Greater Somersworth Chamber of Commerce. Soldati credits Donohue with great changes at the cafe, including expanded food and drink options, ever-changing furniture arrangements, and expanded hours (the café is now open every day). Donohue said, “My months here have been great. It seems we're becoming increasingly successful at our goal of becoming a community hub; a place where teens come after school, businesspeople and city staff hold their meetings, families spend quality time, and so on.”

What’s in store for 2013?

“We’ve definitely enhanced our image as a Gluten-Free destination, and we’d like to build on that,” says Donohue. “We’re also receiving increasing catering and baking orders, thanks to our homemade, high quality, and European inspired baked goods, and we’re confident that the demand will rise in the year to come.” For Soldati, it’s always been about engaging the public.  “We’re into our twelfth month now and I’ve been here for almost 365 days.  Virtually every day I’ve seen a new face, met a new resident or traveler, and I never get tired of telling the story of our Tea House and how it’s part of a larger picture to transform Somersworth.  I look forward to welcoming those people back again and again, as well as seeing the new faces of 2013.”

Twelve Hours at Teatotaller is an All Day Party on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 10am to 10pm. To celebrate, Teatotaller will feature different specials and deals each hour.  Stop in right at 10am and get a free tea with purchase.  Be there between 2pm and 3pm and get Half Off the Full Afternoon Tea.  Check their website for full specials.  They have also been hosting a Festive Sweater contest all month and the winners will be announced that evening.  Enjoyed their live music throughout the year?  The Teatotaller’s have invited back several musicians to liven the crowd throughout the day and into the night.
