Tracy Kane, Local Author/ Illustrator of the Award Winning Fairy Houses Series®, to Appear at Lilac Festival at Wentworth Coolidge Mansion on May 25

Award-winning Author and Illustrator Tracy Kane will appear at the Lilac Festival at the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth, NH on May 25, 2013.
The author of the popular Fairy Houses Series® of photographic and illustrated books will read from her books and share fun ideas for building fairy houses at 11:00 am. All ages are welcome. The Lilac Festival is from 10:00 am-3:00 pm and admission is free. Following Tracy’s program, visitors of all ages are invited to help build an enchanted “Fairy Houses Village” on the grounds of the historic site.
Fairy houses are small structures made from natural materials to attract fairies and woodland creatures. Inspired by Tracy Kane’s award-winning Fairy Houses Series® of books, fairy dwellings are popping up in backyards, parks, school playgrounds, nature centers and woodlands around the world.

In each illustrated story book, Tracy combines her love of nature with a touch of magic. Her stories emphasize a respect for nature and provide a way for children to learn about and become part of the natural world around them. Children love to wonder if they build a fairy house, will the fairies come to visit?
The Fairy House Series® of books foster creative thinking and problem-solving skills through a fun, hands-on activity. Parents, educators and nature lovers are amazed at children’s imaginations and concentration when constructing their fairy habitats. About the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion
The Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion is an 18th century house and farm site located at 375 Little Harbor Road, on the banks of Little Harbor in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In 1753 NH’s first Royal Governor, Benning Wentworth (1696-1767; Governor 1741-1767), moved the seat of government and his extended household to the site. The property became the center of political and social life in the colony. The Mansion is historically significant as the only original surviving residence of a Royal Governor in the United States. The Mansion is operated by the Wentworth-Coolidge Commission, whose mission is to promote the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion and to implement educational, art, musical, and cultural programs that provide a broad understanding of the social, political, and environmental history of the Piscataqua region.
