Black Diamond Jet Team to Perform in Air Show

The Service Credit Union Boston-Portsmouth Air Show announced today that the Black Diamond jet demonstration team has been formally added to its 2012 lineup.

This year’s show will take to the skies at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease on June 30 and July 1 and will feature the United States Navy Blue Angels.  The Service Credit Union Boston – Portsmouth Air Show is being jointly produced by the Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire. These two organizations, along with more than 30 other local not-for-profit groups, benefit from the show. 

Formerly known as the Heavy Metal Jet Team, Black Diamond is one of the world’s only non-military jet demonstration teams. The team’s inaugural season was in 2011, which saw them become the most talked about performers on the air show circuit and a highly sought-after team for air shows in 2012. 

The 2011 team consisted of six L-39 Albatrosses and one MiG-17 painted in an arctic camouflage scheme. Plans for 2012 include the addition of two new aircraft to the team.  This will be the first seven-ship civilian jet team act in North America. The lineup will include five L-39 aircraft and two MiG-17 fighters. Black Diamond is known for their thrilling, tight formation flying and the aggressive solo aerobatics.  All of the pilots are experienced air show pilots and several are former members of military jet demonstration teams.

The Black Diamond jet demonstration team joins not only the previously announced world-renowned United States Navy Blue Angels but also, air show legend Sean D. Tucker, aerobatic superstar Michael Goulian, U.S. Army Parachute Team “Golden Knights”, Wingwalker Jane Wicker and the KC-135 Stratotanker.  The show will announce more exciting lineup additions and helpful air show information in the next few weeks. Advanced general admission for the Service Credit Union Boston-Portsmouth Air Show is $20 for adults and $15 for youth ages 6-11. Ticket prices will increase to $25 for adults and $20 for youth the week of the event. There is a $10 fee for parking.
