Bodhi Thai Bistro Coming to City

Thai restaurant will occupy former Sakura Bana Japanese restaurant space on Pleasant Street.

In Thailand, the word "Bodhi" means enlightenment and one can only surmise that the menu of the new Bodhi Thai Bistro coming to downtown Portsmouth will tantalize the palate.

According to a notice posted by the city Building Inspector's office on the front door of 40 Pleasant Street, a building permit was granted to applicant Khone Sanasy to create the Bodhi Thai Bistro.

It will occupy the former Pleasant Street space used by the Sakura Bana Japanese restaurant that closed nearly a year ago. Prudential Verani Realty of Portsmouth marketed the space for several months.

On Monday afternoon, the interior space was already being renovated for the new Asian restaurant, but no one was on the premises.

According to the city building permit, the space is licensed to serve up to 62 patrons and the Pleasant Street block is owned by Lawrence P. McManus and Mary Elizabeth Herbert.
