Button Up NH, Seabrook Edition

Free workshops will show homeowners how to "Button Up" their homes to save energy and money.

Local residents are invited to attend a free home weatherization workshop at the Seabrook Public Library on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Cosponsored by Atlantic Green Energy, Harmony Energy Works and the Seabrook Public Library, the event is one of a number of Button Up New Hampshire workshops being held throughout the state this winter.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Paul Button of Energy Audits Unlimited will present information on how to “Button Up” your home to save both energy and money.

Workshop goers will also learn about government affiliated programs like NH Home Performance with Energy Star, which provides qualified homeowners with rebates for 50 percent of the cost of eligible energy efficiency improvements, up to $4,000. The process begins with a comprehensive energy audit performed by a certified energy auditor like Button. Home improvements recommended by the auditor may then be eligible for the 50% rebate, from adding insulation to attics to insulating hot water pipes and tanks.

A second workshop, dubbed Button Up 201, is planned for Thursday, March 22, at the same time and location. The second workshop is a bit more advanced and will delve deeper into the topic of controlling energy costs.

Beyond government incentives for energy savings, Atlantic Green Energy is among the close to 100 local green businesses who have partnered with the Green Alliance to provide consumers with discounts on a wide range of sustainable products and services. Atlantic Green Energy offers Green Alliance members 10 percent off all items in their store, representing $500 or more in savings on a Solar PV or Solar Thermal system.
