Build a Sailboat with Your Family in Just Three Days

N.H. Sea Grant and UNH Cooperative Extension are offering this program later this month.

DURHAM, NH — As warmer days approach, families can spend the summer sailing in a boat they built together. Applications are now being accepted for the 2017 Family Boat Building Workshop sponsored by the University of New Hampshire Marine Docents, according to a press statement from N.H. Sea Grant.

From May 19 to 21, six families will each build an “Oyster Cat” 12-foot sailboat which can safely carry a family of three on quiet water. Eligible families must include one or two adults and at least one child age 12 to 20. No prior woodworking knowledge beyond basic hand tool skills required. An experienced docent boat builder will assist each family.
