Cammarata Was Wanted in Massachusetts for Assault to Murder
Man found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound by Portsmouth Police was also wanted for other charges.

The man found dead in a Portsmouth hotel on Friday was wanted for numerous charges in Massachusetts, including assault to murder and was a person of interest who may have shot at a police officer 12 hours before, according to a press statement from the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Nicholas Cammarata, 30, of Saugus, MA, had active warrants in Middlesex County which were issued on March 12, 2015, for violation of a condition of bail which was ordered in a pending criminal case.
“In that case, Cammarata had been arraigned on charges of assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon (two counts),” she stated.

Cammarata is also a “person of interest” in an incident from early Friday morning involving a breaking and entering incident in Cambridge that led to a shooting involving a suspect and police officer.
Police in Cambridge later reached out to Portsmouth Police when they found out that Cammarata might be holed up in a room at the America’s Best Inn.

Ryan stated that the man found dead in the hotel room has been identified as Cammarata.
“Active investigations are continuing,” Ryan said. “Working with our law enforcement partners, we will be assessing forensic results, ballistics information, and interviewing individuals before any conclusions are made concerning the circumstances which occurred on March 20.”
Ryan said both the Cambridge incident and the death of Cammarata in New Hampshire were still active investigations.
In 2011, Cammarata, who was living in North Reading at the time, was arrested in Cambridge for aggravated assault and battery after allegedly beating up a woman from Maine, who was his girlfriend at the time. The beating took place about five blocks from where the breaking and entering and shooting incident occurred on Friday morning.
