Cops: Felon Caught with Gun, Drugs

Portsmouth Police arrest Abdul Rodriguez on Banfield Road.

A traffic stop for speeding yesterday led to a slew of charges against a Portsmouth man, according to a report.

Abdul Rodriguez, 39, of Portsmouth, was arrested on Sept. 7, 2015, on felon in possession of a firearm, felony possession of drugs, possession of drugs in a motor vehicle, possession of a conceal firearm without a license, operating without a valid license, operating after suspension, and speeding.

According to police, Rodriguez was stopped at just before 4:30 p.m. on Banfield Road. Officers allegedly found a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat and heroin in the vehicle.

Rodriguez was arrested and held without bail. He was arraigned in Portsmouth Circuit Court this morning.

According to online reports, Rodriguez was arrested for selling heroin in Dover in June.
