MEREDITH, NH — The longtime Meredith Village Savings Bank senior vice president is set to retire in May after 25 years of dedicated service, the bank announced in a news release Thursday.
John Swedberg joined MVSB as a commercial loan officer in 1999 with extensive experience in commercial lending and community banking, according to the bank.

Finally, in 2017, he was promoted to senior staff both as a part of the strategy team for the mutual bank and to oversee all commercial lending efforts for MVSB.
But according to Swedberg, the most rewarding part of his career with MVSB has been the time spent giving back to local businesses and the community.

"It was most important to me to be a part of a bank that cared about investing locally," Swedberg said, in part, in Thursday's news release. "I knew MVSB had a great reputation as a community bank and would be a great fit for me ... I have been blessed to work with some of the best colleagues I could have hoped for."
Meredith Village Savings Bank's president, Marcus Weeks, described Swedberg's impact on the bank's success as "immeasurable."
The bank noted that during his tenure, Swedberg guided the commercial lending department through numerous industry changes and shifting economic climates, oversaw the launch of the bank’s first online commercial loan application, and helped the bank navigate Small Business Paycheck Protection Program to support local businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"He has done a remarkable job supporting his employees and creating a talented, close-knit team that works hard every day to champion local businesses," Swedberg added. "John is humble, approachable, knowledgeable and his leadership style invites those around him to grow and thrive in their careers."
Due to his hard work and strong focus on employee development over the years, Swedberg "will leave behind a diverse and talented commercial banking team that will serve the needs of MVSB and the community for decades to come," according to Meredith Village Savings Bank.
Swedberg has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Plymouth State University. Throughout his career, he also served as a coach for the Lakes Region Rebels AAU Basketball Club and coach and referee for the Bill Lamper Youth Basketball League.
