Democratic U.S. House candidate Christian Urrutia spoke at a house party in Portsmouth Wednesday night. Urrutia said he would be a progressive voice in Congress who would fight against Republicans’ agenda and take on President Trump. He spoke about his background as a first-generation immigrant, his service in the armed forces, and his experience as a human rights lawyer. In responses to voter questions, Urrutia differentiated himself from Democratic opponents Stefany Shaheen and Maura Sullivan as a progressive who has not taken money from super PACs, and from left-wing challenger Carleigh Beriont as a staunch supporter of Ukraine. Urrutia and his fellow Democrats are vying to succeed incumbent Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas, as Pappas mounts a campaign for U.S. Senate.
