Felon Allegedly With Stolen Glock Arrested At Dunkin’s

Police: Travis Cross, a homeless man with a felony record, possessed a stolen handgun and may have broken into vehicles on Islington Street.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A homeless man with priors was arrested this morning allegedly in possession of a stolen handgun after police were sent to Dunkin’ Donuts for a report of a suspicious person, according to police. Travis Cross, 34, of no fixed arrest, was arrested on July 20, 2017, on disorderly conduct, felon in possession of a deadly weapon, and receiving stolen property charges. At around 6:30 a.m. today, officers were sent to the Dunkin’ on Islington Street for a report of a man who was “out of it” and in possession of a firearm, according to Sgt. Timothy McCain of the Portsmouth Police Department.

“No threats were made and the firearm was described as being removed from the suspect’s waistband and placed on a chair,” McCain alleged. “Portsmouth officers arrived within minutes and located the male suspect inside the business. Officers searched the suspect and recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun from his waistband. This is the same weapon described as being on the chair.”

The man – Cross – was arrested for disorderly conduct and while running a check on him, officers found that he had previously been convicted of multiple felony level offenses so an additional charge of felon in possession was added to his arrest.

After taking him into custody, police began to receive calls – five altogether – about vehicles in the area of Islington Street that were broken into and items stolen. One of the reports included a subject who reported a stolen firearm.

“Officers were able to positively identify the firearm recovered on Cross as the same firearm reported stolen,” McCain stated.

So the receiving stolen property charge was added. He was held on $25,000 cash bail and is expected to be arraigned in Portsmouth District Court tomorrow.

Earlier today, the department also received a report from Barberry Lane about “several gunshots” heard during the early morning hours. The detective division and the department’s K-9 Unit are investigating this report as possibly being related to Cross’s arrest, McCain noted. The Portsmouth Police Detective Division is assisting with the investigation by processing evidence and conducting additional investigative measures, he noted, and the investigation is ongoing. It is possible there will be additional charges, McCain added.

McCain stated in the press release that the department reminds all residents to lock their vehicles and secure valuables.

“Oftentimes, simple preventative measures can discourage criminal activity,” he stated.

According to Seacoastonline.com, Cross was arrested by the Hampton Police Department twice in October 2016, first, for criminal trespass, and then, two days later, for criminal trespass and default or breach of bail conditions.
