Free Neck And Back Pain Education Event Scheduled At York Public Library
A free educational session on neck and back pain with Portsmouth physician Dr. Philip Zakko will be held Feb. 17 at the York Public Library.

YORK, MAINE — Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and York Hospital will host a free educational program on neck and back pain later this month at the York Public Library.
The event, titled “Neck and Back Pain: Non-Surgical Care and When Surgery May Help,” will feature Dr. Philip Zakko, a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. The session is intended to provide information on the causes of neck and back pain and available treatment options.
Zakko specializes in nonoperative and surgical treatment of degenerative and traumatic conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. According to event organizers, the presentation will cover nonsurgical treatment options, signs that surgery may be appropriate, and strategies for managing pain and improving quality of life.

The program is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. at the York Public Library, 15 Long Sands Road. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided by York Hospital.
Zakko earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He completed a spine surgery fellowship at Corewell Health, focusing on operative and nonoperative care.

Zakko has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented research at national and international meetings. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
Seating for the event is limited, and registration is available through atlanticorthopaedics.org/news.
