Gov. Lynch Congratulates PHS Clippers Baseball Team, Percussion Ensemble
The 81-0 Clippers baseball team set a national record for consecutive wins and the ensemble won the 2011 Winter Guard International Percussion Scholastic Concert Open.
The Portsmouth High Clippers baseball team and the Percussion Ensemble have one thing in common: both are at the top of their game.
On Monday afternoon, they and the rest of the classmates and teachers received a special visit from Gov. John Lynch who presented both of them with commendations recognizing their achievements.
Inside the packed high school gymnasium, Lynch said he is amazed and impressed with both of their accomplishments.

The Clippers baseball team is currently 81-0 after winning a national record 76 consecutive games in May. They are currently 2-0 on their playoff run for a four consecutive state Division II title.
Meanwhile, the Percussion Ensemble under the leadership of Band Director Steven Cirillio recently won the 2011 Winter Guard International Percussion Scholastic Concert Open in Dayton, Ohio. The group played some impressive songs during the Govenor's visit and Lynch personally congratulated each member of the baseball team and the ensemble for their hard work and achievements.

Lynch said he remembers watching many members of the Clippers baseball team when they played for the Portsmouth Little League championship team in 2006. He said he invited that team to the State House in Concord and played ball with them on the State House lawn.
"It is a remarkable record," said Lynch after the presentation. "It's absolutely astounding."
PHS Principal Jeffrey Collins credits the school and the community for helping these students achieve such great accomplisments.
"It's just proof positive that hard work, dedication and commitment really pays off," he said. "It's wonderful for our community."
