Great Bay Community College Hosts Drop-In Tuesdays
The new format necessary as more students consider community college option.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — With August upon us and the first day of classes coming up Aug. 29, 2016, now is the time for many to finally make the decision to go to college. Great Bay is still taking applications for the fall, and “Drop-In Tuesdays” makes it easy and convenient to enroll, according to a press statement. Every Tuesday from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., an admissions representative is present in the main lobby of Great Bay’s Portsmouth and Rochester campuses.
No appointment is necessary and representatives are on hand throughout the summer. Potential students can tour the campus, learn about associate and certificate degree options, transfer pathways, financial aid and get assistance with the application process. Anyone who brings their high school diploma or official transcript will be accepted on the spot to any general program.
According to Carey Walker, director of Admissions at Great Bay, the new format was added in response to an increase in the number of fall applicants and accepted students.

“Every student’s situation is different” said Walker. “Some are just beginning the enrollment process, others have a few steps to wrap up to be ready for fall. We’re committed to removing barriers and giving each person the time and attention they need.”
The increased “drop in” hours also enables potential students to learn about new programs being unveiled this fall. Starting in August, a re-vamped associate degree in Business Administration will launch with concentrations in Sales and Digital Marketing and Leadership and Management. The degree targets two kinds of students: those who want to move directly into a career with a two-year associate degree and those seeking to transfer to a four-year school, most likely the University of New Hampshire, Southern New Hampshire University or Granite State College. Students can also enroll in new programs in Bioengineering and Engineering Science, also designed as transfer programs.

For those unable to attend on a Tuesday, the Admissions Department also offers general information sessions and sessions for selective programs including Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology and Nursing. Open Houses are held in November, January and April. For students interested in the Advanced Composites Manufacturing program, weekly information sessions are hosted at Great Bay’s Rochester campus.
“With the right information, anyone can be read to start” said Walker. “Helping to make an exciting life-changing decision possible is what we are all about.”
