PORTSMOUTH, NH — A Seacoast man is facing charges after a crash Friday in Portsmouth. Police were sent to the intersection of Congress and Maplewood Avenue around 2 a.m. for a report of an abandoned pickup truck in the middle of the road with heavy damage. Officers at the crash scene, according to a post on Facebook, "determine the operator had fled the area."

Not long after discovering the crash, Portsmouth dispatch, police stated, received a call from Charles Lamprey, 24, of New Road in Hampton, reporting his truck was stolen. At first, police alleged, Lamprey refused to meet with officers. But they were able to find him near Islington Street, the report stated.

After an investigation, Lamprey was charged with driving while intoxicated, conduct after an accident, and false report of a stolen vehicle. Police furthered the investigation and accused Lamprey of driving into a cement light pole and street sign in the area of the Memorial Bridge.
