Heroin Dealer Tased After Melee with Trooper: NHSP

State Police arrest Douglas Gray on I-95 in Portsmouth on numerous charges. A passenger, Nikole Coe, was also charged for heroin possession.

PORTSMOUTH, NH - Two Rochester residents are behind bars after a traffic stop on I-95 in Portsmouth turned in to a brawl between an alleged heroin dealer and a New Hampshire State Police trooper last night.

Douglas Gray, 43, of Rochester, was arrested on Jan. 28, 2016, and charged with possession of a narcotic drug with intent to distribute, resisting arrest/detention, simple assault on a police officer, and stop lamps. Also arrested was Nikole Coe, 22, also of Rochester, who was charged with possession of a narcotic drug (heroin) and false reports to law enforcement.

At around 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, a state trooper, working with the State Police Mobile Enforcement Team, stopped a 2005 Chrysler Sebring traveling north on i-95 in Portsmouth for a motor vehicle violation.

The driver – Gray – allegedly showed signs of narcotic impairment and was asked to participate in a field sobriety test. While doing so, he allegedly reached for something in his pocket and a patdown was conducted.

“Gray attempted to flee by running to his vehicle,” according to Sgt. Mark Hall. “A significant struggle ensued as (the trooper) attempted to take Gray into custody. During the altercation Gray assaulted (the trooper) several times.”

The trooper Tased Gray and other troopers and officers from the Portsmouth Police Department also assisted at the scene, according to the report.

After Gray was arrested, police allegedly found 25 grams of heroin during a search.

Coe was arrested after she was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin.

Both Gray and Coe were held on cash bail and arraigned this morning in Portsmouth District Court.
