Holiday card writers wanted to spread joy to Seacoast seniors

PORTSMOUTH – The Alliance for Greater Good is once again seeking to involve community card writing elves in sending warm holiday wishes to nursing home and long-term care facility residents.

Staff from the facilities provide the first names of their residents along with an interesting personal fact or two about each. The Alliance then assigns 10-12 residents to each volunteer card writer with all cards due back by December 12. Card writing elves provide the cards and write the personalized holiday messages, and the Alliance and its volunteers organize and deliver the cards along with some cookies donated by local stores and markets.

The Alliance is partnering with six long-term care facilities in Portsmouth, Rye, Exeter and Dover so far this year; other Seacoast area facilities that are interested in participating should contact the Alliance.

The Alliance for Greater Good is a community non-profit that creates events to connect the kindness in others with local beneficiaries. The Alliance is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Since the Alliance formed in August 2020, it has coordinated events that have assisted a variety of beneficiaries including school children, families with food insecurity, seniors in long-term care facilities, restaurant workers, women transitioning from homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters and recovery centers, and neighbors needing short-term financial assistance.
