Make Big Change Announces Winners of College Scholarship Contest

Make Big Change, a Dover, NH based non-profit dedicated to promoting the awareness and strategic prevention of skin cancer, has announced the recipients of this year’s College Scholarship Contest.

Created in partnership with Eastern Propane, the group initiated the scholarship to help seacoast senior high school students help cover the ever increasing costs of college application fees. To enter, students were asked to write a 500 word essay about how they plan to use their college educations to make their own big change in the world.

Both of this year’s recipients attend Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH.

Juliana Ferro won the hearts of the review panel with a touching essay on her plans to become a lawyer who will dedicate a significant amount of her time to pro-bono work for financially underprivileged clients.

Josh Janeski was chosen for his well-written essay regarding his planned work with organizations such as Upward Bound, that assist aspiring students from low-income families to achieve upward social mobility through higher education.

Checks in the amount of $250 were presented to each student on November 20th at Spaulding High School.

“We are delighted to play a part in helping these wonderful students take the next step in achieving their dreams,” said Make Big Change executive director Laurie Seavey. “We look forward to hearing all about their future successes.”
