Masked Man with Handgun Robs Market Basket in Portsmouth

Investigators are asking for the public's help in solving the crime which occurred on Lafayette Road on Monday night.

The Portsmouth Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Market Basket on Lafayette Road at just before 9 p.m. last night.

According to a report from Sgt. Richard Webb, a white man, about 5-7, with a stocky build, reportedly entered the store and approached the customer service desk at around 8:41 p.m. on Feb. 2. There, he “displayed a hand gun, and demanded money from the cashier,” according to the alert.

“The suspect then exited the store and was last seen walking toward Peverly Hill Rd,” said Webb. “No one was injured during the robbery.”

The suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, grayish-blue pants, with a baseball cap with a purple visor, and white sneakers. He was also wearing a black mask or bandana to cover his face.

The Portsmouth Police, Webb noted, are continuing to investigate the incident, due to its nature. They consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous.
