NH High School Closes Early After Bomb Threat: Reports

Oyster River High School students were dismissed this morning after a threat was found on a bathroom wall.

DURHAM, NH — Classes at a local school were dismissed this morning after a bomb threat was reportedly found in a school bathroom wall, according to reports online. Students at Oyster River High School in Durham were dismissed at around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 6, 2016, according to WMUR-TV after a specific threat was found.

The school sent out a notice to parents about the threat at 10:12 a.m. via email.

“Almost always threats of this kind are not carried out but our priority is the safety of our students and staff,” according to the email.

The threat – according to NH1 News – was written on a girl’s bathroom wall and stated that a bomb would go off in the afternoon. Both Durham and New Hampshire State Police were at the scene, including the bomb squad team.

Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-NH, noted in a press statement that state public safety, emergency management and education officials were closely monitoring the situation at the school. “We have been in contact with local officials and the emergency operations center, and we will continue to exercise extra vigilance, closely monitor the situation and work together at the state, local and federal levels to investigate and mitigate the threat,” she stated.
