NHSP Participating in Driving to Save Lives Campaign
This weekend, along I-95, from Maine to Florida, state police beef up patrols to improve safety.

The New Hampshire State Police will be participating in the “Driving to Save Lives Campaign” along I-95 throughout the weekend, according to a press release.
This effort is in conjunction with all state police agencies along the east coast, from Maine to Florida, and is being coordinated by the Florida Highway Patrol. Throughout the weekend, extra patrols will be assigned along I-95 in marked and unmarked cruisers.
“The purpose of this effort is to increase highway safety and reduce fatal crashes, by focusing on speeding, distracted drivers, impaired drivers and aggressive driving habits,” according to officials. “This campaign is similar and being run in parallel to Operation Safe Commute which was implemented several years ago by the New Hampshire State Police, in close coordination with the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police, New Hampshire County Sheriffs and the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency. All state law enforcement is working closely with the Department of Transportation to reduce fatalities and improve conditions for the motoring public on all state roadways.”

According to officials, fatal crashes were reduced by more than 20 percent in 2014. This reduction resulted in one of the lowest years on record, according to state police. In conjunction with its law enforcement partners statewide, state police “intend on continuing this trend by continued coordination and cooperation.” The goal, officials say, is “public awareness and compliance with state and local laws, increasing traveling safety for residents and visitors.”
The public is key to the program’s success.
