Optima Bank & Trust Awards $1,500 to American Independence Museum

In support of a new exhibit for the 2017 season, Optima Bank & Trust has awarded $1,500 to the American Independence Museum.

In support of a new exhibit expected to open at the beginning of the 2017 season in early May, Optima Bank & Trust has awarded $1,500 to the American Independence Museum.

In serving as presenting sponsor of the innovative exhibit, which will feature items that have rarely made it out of storage due to climate concerns, Dan Morrison, President & CEO of Optima Bank & Trust, expressed excitement.

“We are happy to be able to continue our support of the American Independence Museum,” said Morrison. “The Museum houses so many treasures from our past that can now be displayed for today’s audiences and also preserved for future generations to enjoy.”

The donation from Optima in conjunction with a grant from the Cogswell Benevolent Trust enabled the Museum to purchase and present two microclimate cases. These cases will showcase a rotating exhibit that will include two handwritten letters from George Washington.

“The fact that he hand wrote these letters is not the only incredible part about these items,” noted Emma Bray, Executive Director of the American Independence Museum. “The content is significant as well—these letters reveal aspects of history you cannot get anywhere else.”

A previous sponsor of a Revolutionary Currency exhibit at the Museum, Morrison said the Bank is honored at the chance to present historical artifacts of national significance to the public.

Bray added, “We are very grateful for this investment by Optima Bank & Trust. This exhibit will draw more people to the Museum and engage them in unique ways. We look forward to the public’s reaction.”

The American Independence Museum opens for the 2017 season on Tuesday, May 2 and will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm through December 1. For more information about the Museum and its full calendar of events and programs, visit www.independencemuseum.org.
