Portsmouth Man Perishes in Car Crash

NHSP: Louis Kloppenburg crash into a tree; Route 101 ramp onto I-95 in Hampton was closed for about two hours.

A Portsmouth man has lost his life after an accident this morning on I-95 in Hampton, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Louis Kloppenburg, 60, of Portsmouth, was involved in a single-vehicle accident on the ramp to I-95 from Route 101 west at around 10 a.m. on April 13, 2015, according to a report.

According to state troopers, their preliminary investigation revealed that Kloppenburg Hyundai Sonata went off the left side of the roadway, down an embankment, and collided with a tree. He was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he later passed away, due to the injuries. There were no other passengers in the vehicle, according to troopers.

An accident reconstruction team had the ramp shut down for about two hours while conducting its investigation into the crash. The Hampton Police Department, Hampton Fire and Rescue teams, and the NH DOT assisted troopers at the scene.
