Portsmouth Police Officer Rescues Disabled Man from Apartment Blaze
The man and the officer are OK after Sagamore Avenue incident.

A local man has a lot to be thankful for today after a quicking thinking, prompt, Portsmouth Police officer was able to get him out of a burning apartment building before fire and rescue teams arrived.
According to a press statement, at around 5 a.m. on March 4, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting smoke inside an apartment at 1177 Sagamore Avenue and that it was on fire.
During the call, it was learned that there was a disabled man in the residence who couldn’t get out.

“Officer Aaron Stacy was nearby the area at the time of the call and immediately responded,” according to a statement by Capt. Frank S. Warchol of the Portsmouth Police Department. “Ofc. Stacy arrived first on scene was able to gain entry into the residence. He was able to locate the disabled man in a bed, got him into a wheelchair and eventually out of the building.”
Portsmouth Fire and Rescue teams arrived right afterwards and were able to get the fire under control along with mutual aid response from the Kittery, ME, Newington, and Rye fire departments.
