Portsmouth's North Church Has a Twin

The Union Street Brick Church in Bangor is an identical twin to Portsmouth's iconic North Church.

Union Street Brick Church - Bangor, Maine

I recently had an opportunity to visit Bangor, Maine, and do some photography at sunset.  Before I left home, I took the time to research local landmarks there.  I do that before all my trips.  I'll type a city name into Google and switch the search results to images just to see what looks interesting for me to photograph.  When I find good photos of interesting places, I resolve to do ones as good as the best ones I find or better.  When I did my image search for "Bangor, Maine," some of the image results were for this church.  It's an identical twin to Portsmouth's North Church, but with a slightly different haircut.

A cursory search of the two churches' histories reveals only that they were built a year apart.  I couldn't find more information about the architect(s) and builder(s).  Anyone who might know more, please feel free to comment and inform.

The Union Street Brick Church is a little bit run-down.  The paint on the steeple needs freshening.  The neighborhood is a bit of a dive.  Still, the church breasts its own grandness and manages, despite the petty insults, to maintain its churchly dignity.
