Sen. Fuller Clark Urges Constituents to Use IRS Free File for Free Online Tax Prep & E-Filing
Taxpayers Making $62,000 or Less Can Visit site to Prepare, E-File Federal Tax Returns for Free & Basic E-Filing Services for All

(Portsmouth, NH) – Sen. Martha Fuller Clark today urged her constituents to visit a free, federal government-backed webpage to help as the deadline nears for filing federal taxes.
“For a lot of middle class families, the approach of April 15th - Tax Day - is a source of uncertainty and concern. There is no reason it has to be this way and this year, with help from the federal government, taxpayers can easily get online help e-filing their tax returns,” Fuller Clark said.
Sen. Clark, a Portsmouth Democrat, pointed out that by visiting www.IRS.gov/freefile, taxpayers can access a number of services to make filing their taxes easier, more accurate, and less stressful.

“Every taxpayer with a 2015 Adjusted Gross Income of $62,000 or less can go there to prepare, complete, and e-file their federal tax returns at no cost,” Fuller Clark added. “In addition, Free File provides basic online e-filing services, called Free File Fillable Forms, to all taxpayers regardless of income. Free File can also be used to e-file an extension for free.”
A collaboration between the Internal Revenue Service and the private sector, The Free File Alliance, a coalition of 13 industry-leading tax software companies partnered with the IRS, provides free access to the industry’s most innovative and secure tax software.

Free File Alliance member companies have continually worked with the IRS to strengthen the Free File program, and taxpayers have consistently reported that it is user-friendly and efficient. Responding to a 2009 IRS survey, 96 percent of users said they found Free File easy to use, while 98 percent said they would recommend the program to others.
