TIGER Grant Issued for Sarah Mildred Long Bridge
U.S. Department of Transportation commits $25 million to the project.

The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge replacement project in Portsmouth will get $25 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation in a form of a TIGER grant.
Officials, like Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, and U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-NH, lauded the announcement with Hassan saying that opening a new bridge as well as other infrastructure was key to economic development opportunities around the state.
“The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is critical to the people, businesses and economy of the Seacoast, and provides a crucial rail link to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, boosting the economy of our entire state,” Hassan said in a statement. “A solid, modern transportation infrastructure is necessary to the success of our people and businesses, and I thank Senator Shaheen and Senator Ayotte for their effective advocacy of this important project, as well as Secretary Anthony Foxx and the U.S. Department of Transportation for investing in New Hampshire.”

Shea-Porter stated that it was, “good government to invest in our infrastructure, and I am very pleased that $25 million in funds will come to the Seacoast to replace the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge.”
She added that both the New Hampshire and Maine delegations had supported the because the bridge was “vital to our safety, our economy, and national security.”
