Allegedly Flashing a Toy Handgun Leads to Charges

Salem Police arrest Jeffrey Meuse, Garrett Maddox after an incident on Route 28.

Two men were arrested last week after allegedly threatening another driver on Route 28 with a toy handgun.

Jeffrey Meuse, 20, of Sandown, and Garrett Maddox, 20, of Atkinson, were arrested on July 29, 2015, and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal threatening, and reckless conduct.

According to police, at around 1:15 p.m. Salem dispatch received a call from “a frightened motorist” on Route 28, alleging that a vehicle, traveling north, pointed a silver handgun out of the window.

Dispatch took down what Lt. Joel Dolan called “a detailed vehicle description” and later, a detective spotted the vehicle and pulled it over.

“Officers were able to locate a silver toy ‘cap’ gun in the vehicle matching the description given by the caller,” Dolan noted.

Both Meuse and Maddox were arrested and are due in court on Sept. 14.
