Aug. 19 Fundraiser for Salem Woman Impacted by Oil Spill

Suzanne Demers' home was damaged by a 2007 oil spill and the home still isn't livable.

Salem VFW Post 8546 is sponsoring the upcoming "Ride for Mom's Home" fundraiser Sunday, Aug. 19.

The motorcycle ride fundraiser will benefit Suzanne Demers, a Salem woman whose home on Martin Avenue was badly damaged by a 2007 oil spill. According to her son, Michael, the home is still unlivable and she's over $200,000 in debt.

The sign-up for the ride will beging at 8 a.m. on Aug. 19 at the Lawrence, Mass. Elks Lodge 65 at 625 Andover St. in Lawrence. Donations are $25 per bike and $20 per person for all other vehicles.

Destinations include the South Side in Lawrence, Archie's in Haverhill, the Chop Shop in Seabrook, back to Lawrence and then up Route 28 to Murray's in Salem before ending at the Salem VFW Post 8546 at 42 North Broadway.

The VFW Post will host a post-ride event starting at 3 p.m. with auctions, a 50/50 raffle, food, live bands and other raffles.
