While searching for the still lost dog Scooby, who ran away in August, I came across two other similar dogs in need. Scooby, you might remember is a Jack Russell Terrier cross who escaped out a door and ran into the woods.
Over the last few weeks we have had reports of seeing him on Maple Street Howe Street in Methuen, Mass., and on Hampstead Street and Bluff Street in Salem. Each time we get a report we run out to search only to come up short.
Last week when the report that a Jack Russell was seen digging in the trash on Bluff Street the members of Granite State Dog Recovery (GSDR) went out to investigate. While checking out the area we went door to door with a flyer of Scooby asking if anyone had seen this dog. Several houses down, one woman told us that she not only had seen the dog but it was just a few hundred yards away and sitting all alone in a field.

Pulling binoculars out of the car we took a short hike and sure enough there was a dog that look very familiar. With anticipation and hearts racing we looked through the binoculars to view a very thin and very scared Jack Russell but it was immediately apparent it was not Scooby.
This dog had ribs showing, was not neutered and was now darting across a busy Bluff Street with no collar and no person watching out for him. We were told that this dog had been scouraging for food after dusk and before dawn for the last few weeks. GSDR decide to set a humane have-a-heart trap for this dog to see if we could catch him and get him off the streets. We are still waiting for him to come back.

On Sunday, GSDR got a call that a Jack Russell was running down the street in Methuen running in and out of traffic. A very nice animal lover stopped her truck and managed to corner the dog and get her out of harms way. She drove up and down Riverside Drive looking for the dogs family but no one ever showed up looking for her. GSDR checked our files and we did not have a report of a lost female Jack Russell Terrier.
Again our hopes were dashed as this Jack was not Scooby either. GSDR checked the dog for a microchip but sadly this dog did not have one. GSDR posted this dog on our Facebook page, has placed an ad in the Tribune and we are including a photo of this dog with this article in the hopes of trying to reunite this sweet dog with her family.
If anyone knows who might belong to the little brown and white unaltered male running loose on Bluff Street or the sweet female found running loose on Riverside Drive in Methuen or if you have spotted Scooby in your neighborhood PLEASE contact Lori at GSDR. You can find many postings about these dogs on our Facebook page or you can call Lori directly with information at 508-641-3500.
We would really like to help these three dogs who all seem to be Jack Russell Terriers and all of them need our help to get them safely home.
