Are you a Republican?
Many years ago I ran across a poll of Democrats and Republicans asking them many questions to determine what the differences between them might be. On just about every issue the polltakers selected, it was easy to find people on either side. But one type of question seemed to distinguish members of each party clearly. Most self identified Republicans thought that their decisions had something to do with their fate.
Republicans questioned believed that their choices as individuals changed their future to some extent. Democrats tended to consider themselves at the mercy of fate.

The common statement that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats has little merit. In at least this one respect the difference is clear.
